Ya know I really don't care what Michael Moore thinks, or if Tiger Woods cheated on his wife or why two very sad people got into a White House party. Yet these are the stories on tonight's news. Well I guess it's more like entertainment than news. A true newsman gives you the facts in an informed professional manner. I still laugh when I think of the time Katie Couric explained in a solemn tone that matricide was when a mother kills her children! For crying out loud doesn't anyone read this first.
I guess what it boils down to is maybe people want to be told what to think. Having to analyze the event is just too much trouble. Which brings me to Walter Cronkite. Even as his voice choked as he reported JFK had just died he didn't give you his opinion , just the news.
So Lady button your blouse up and tell the spiked haired moron next to you to put on a tie. And for the love of Mike just give me the way it was today. OK I feel better now.
This is right on course with what I've been saying it dosen't matter if you watch the local, CNN, or Fox news all you get is opinions. I think gone are the days when someone will just give you the facts and let you make your own decision, and can you tell the difference between your local news and Entertainment Tonight?
ReplyDeleteJames where you went wrong is turning it on, and feeding the masses. No harm can come to those who refuse to turn on the nightly news.
ReplyDeleteYou both make good points. Toad my only defense is a weak one. I suffer from the Sour Milk Syndrome.
ReplyDeleteToad...I'm with you there old buddy. James-well said.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I feel much better. And when you do a rant for me it saves so much energy. Seriously, I can't thank you enough.
ReplyDeleteIt won't make you feel better, but we get the same garbage over here and probably a lot more cleavage.
I'm just relieved they stopped talking about the swine flu. Thank you for your comment-I laughed out loud. So true. xoxo

I watch TV5 Monde (rather boring blablabla strike blablabla...but great travel and human interest shows) and at least I keep up with a little bit of news and can make a comment when I call friends in France; and I watch BBC World, the History and the cooking channels (even the design channels are not for me. Anything else is the "lowest common denominator" to me. So I agree totally with you. I loved The Shipping news; great post! thank you.
