Another classy role

I don't watch many of the crime shows, I rank them right up there with reality shows for entertainment. In other words not much! But I do watch NCIS once in awhile. It does make an effort to show some values. But "Ducky" makes the show for me.

Gods of Summer

As the World Series nears and the media silliness starts, lets take a minute and remember when baseball was the national pastime. Fans attention span was more than 37 seconds. Television coverage didn't look like a computer game, and by God the hot dogs were enough, no need for sushi.

Chinese Last Meal

Here in the heartland there is a new death penalty debate. Recently in Ohio they were unable after a couple of hours to find a vein for the lethal injection.Mostly because of IV drug use. The convict was in obvious distress. They postponed the execution and now its in the courts. Has this violated the cruel and unusual punishment protection? I wonder, mostly about the 14 year old girl he raped and murdered. Were the last minutes of her life "cruel and unusual"? I imagine so. Did he consider her rights, and where was the ACLU to protect her ? Flawed logic, maybe. Is the death penalty a deterrent? Maybe if it was enforced,at any rate it would deter the condemned. I read somewhere the Chinese take you out and shoot you in the back of the head and send a bill for the ammo to your family. Is that cruel ? I suppose so, but isn't that the point of the exercise?

Java, cup of Joe, what ever you call it there is no other joy like it. The smell of fresh ground, or just the newly opened can, sends my soul into "AHHHHH". It calms the savage breast and eases any pain. In other words I love coffee.

The other day my 30 year old daughter asked me "Why aren't there any square jawed men any more?". I told her sure there are, I see them all the time. Later it dawned on me she was right. The men who are in the public eye today might have a square jaw, but they don't have that steely eyed look that told you he meant business. You knew what ever they just told you was true. Sure it was more than a look, it was the way they lived their lives. Today a lot of men seem to rejoice in being weak and needy. They cheat and lie with no sense of wrong. They don't or can't understand what it is to be a man. OR maybe I don't know!

About me

Now that some one has read this ( and you are most welcomed here) I thought I might say a few things about myself. I was blessed to have been an Army brat and to have spent a lot of my youth in the deep south. Two areas were a proper upbringing were not demanded, it was simply expected.
As a young boy I was surrounded by solid, honorable men. It wasn't "Leave it to Beaver", but it wasn't "Asphalt Jungle" either. I'm not a political person, so this is not a political blog. if pressed I guess I'm a moderate conservative. Some of my views still surprise my liberal daughters (3). I have been married 34 years to a long suffering, but still caring woman. I think I'm pretty much a normal 60- something man. Plenty of flaws with a couple of good traits thrown in to keep me from sinking.
So if you want to share things that you think I will enjoy please feel free, but if you want to debate I'm afraid you've got the wrong blog. So far my one reader is a very sweet lady I hope my luck holds!

JFK and bad manners.

I just read another blogger talking about manners today. He was posting a list of things to do today such as opening doors and being a polite driver. The thing that struck a nerve with me was eating with your hat on. First of all you should have removed your hat when you entered the building. I supposed fast food joints are a given, but a fairly nice place still has most men eating wearing their hats! Well ok ball caps. As my grandfather would have said" Your head cold boy?"
Well the point is its all JFK's fault. No not his politics, his refusal to wear a hat. I know that is a bit simplistic, but its this time period that so many things changed. The causal dress down life style in business and school is a major factor in the old"what's wrong with America today". No respect, no manners and sadly not a clue as to why this is wrong! The photo is my grand father Reno Ferguson and yes a hat and tie while fishing.

Two men secure in the their manhood that really enjoyed each other. None of today's "bromance" nonsense, no need for Dr Phil. Just two friends who knew the meaning of the word.

Is there a character on television with more class than Richard Gilmore? Edward Herrmann gives an excellent performance , as he always does, in the role. I will miss him when the show ends this year.

What I meant was

I'm starting this blog with the hope that no one reads it. I just wanted a place to vent my not so PC thoughts and actions. I have always felt I was born a couple of decades too late. I have so many ideals of the mid 20th century that God knows are out of place in the 21st.
I miss the world that was run by the strongest and most able, not the loudest or there for the diversity. Our society has become so concerned over the rights of the minority that common sense
has all but disappeared. We have raised a couple of generations that feel showing up merits a trophy. We wouldn't want little Johnny to feel bad because he lost. As an adult why should he need to compete, he showed up didn't he, so where's the paycheck? And at the other end of the scale is the 3rd or 4th generation of welfare. Hey the government has to take care of me right?
No new ideas here I know, but I just wanted to write them out.
