A person of interest

I have been tagged by Sara In LE Petit Village . So now I'm "it". Sara Louise is delightful, entertaining, and some times just a little mischievous. She followed her true love back to his native Provence. She posts such interesting topics from the small French village she calls home. From her learning to drive over foreign roadways to her fear of Zombie Nazi Ghosts she is a very insightful writer. Take a moment and go visit her site. Follow her, her dog Fifty and the Boyfriend ( sorry now the Husband) in some really enjoyable times.

I'm supposed to answer ten questions, some don't really apply to an old man. I'll do my best.

1) Who's your style icon?
I used to have one, now who was it?.......I KNOW! Lady Ga-Ga! OK, anyone who has had the patience to read my junk probably knows its really Edward Herrmann. The absolute master of class and good taste.

2) What is your favorite socialite book?
I have no idea, but my favorite book of all time is Robert Rourak's " The Old Man and the Boy"

3) Favorite party theme?
Grandson birthday

4)Go to Halloween costume?
I can not imagine any set of circumstances that would have me donning a costume.

5) Extravagance you can't live without?
Frisch's Big Boys

6) Living person you most admire?
That would have to be Mike my firefighter brother in law. I wrote about him before, suffice it to say he is the epitome of a hard working man.

7) Greatest fear?
On a day to day level I have almost an obsession about being late. I can not abide tardiness in others and will just about kill myself trying to avoid it.

8)Trait you deplore in yourself?
I hate that I can be a snob about the silliest things.(see #4 above). I really am a very tolerant and understanding person . Then I see someone in a "Ain't Skart" tee shirt, gray cotton shorts and about 40lbs of backside hanging out the bottom of the shorts and poof ! I'm in snob mode. I wish I'd stop that!

9) Which talent would you most like to have?
The ability to articulate the English language properly.

10) Greatest achievement ?
Being part of the Little Rat Pack's gene pool (albeit the shallow end) my grandsons are my true joy.

Sorry to Sara Louise that this took so long to post, but it was fun thank you. And an apology to
everyone I bored to tears. Sara Louise made me do it.

Now I'm supposed to tag some bloggers, but I will do that later. I am planning a little twist to the process.

  1. Snobbery isn't always a bad thing :O) Lateness always irks me too - I give people 5 minutes before I get up and leave. There is no such thing as fashionably late...it's just late no matter how it is PR'd!

  2. I am so with you on #4. The only costume I ever wanted to wear was a princess. And that was when I was 8 years old and under. After that, no thank you very much.

  3. I share your snobby tendencies. There are just some things (like the example you provided) that send me over the edge!

  4. classic answers and a great response to being "tagged." can't wait to have some grandsons myself to spoil the heck out of. and you're snobbery is actually good taste ... i see in you someone who still appreciates the person over the offending garb (out here it's pants below the arse with boxers in full regalia).

  6. Oh James,
I love your answers to the 10 questions asked of you. Being English, I have no idea what Frisch's Big Boys are. I could hazard a guess but, I fear that it would be rude and you wont like me any more !!
You have described Sara Louise's blog so beautifully that I must go over and have a read.
Have fun with your grandsons James. XXXX

  12. James you always say it so well. Love #8, cause if that's being snobby I say, go for it, and more of it, too! I agree with you completely! It's fun seeing things from a man's perspective now and then. No I was not bored!
    Stop by sometime,
    XO

  13. Well done, James. It is hard to fit into the matrix designed by a younger generation. I read a number of blogs about personal finance written by women half my age and think I don't speak the language. Leaving the US for 15 years has also left me in another time warp.

Is it possible that you are not a snob, you just have a different set of 'standards'? Or is that just another word for snob...

  14. Fun post James, always enjoy getting to know more about you. I agree with Shelley above, you're not a snob you just have high standars, which I am all for! I too detest tardiness, I find it to be very rude and disrespectful of people's time. I understand it happens from time to time, but for people who are habitually late, it drives me bonkers! Hope you're having a great week.

  17. 40lbs of backside.... Oh now that is saying it like it is! I must say, I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read that.

Loved all your answers -- just great. :)

  18. Lady GAGA? That really made me laugh. Admit it, you are secretly dancing around the house to the tunes of 'telephone'. ;)
Thanks for sending off the package. I will keep you posted on its progress on the way to us. And I think God is the most reliable one of the three parties involved...

  21. Hello James, love that you have a snobbish tendency to you, it's quite refreshing nowadays! :-)
And as for Frisch's, was it ever affiliated with a chain called Shoney's? It's very familiar.
Love your answers and gentility, cheers!

  22. Love your blog, Of Course!! Glad I found yours.!! :) Have a good week!

  23. HAHAHAHA! Number 8 and the “snob mode” cracked me up. I find myself doing the very same thing! Along with the attire that you mentioned, one of my biggest snob-mode-initiators are the pathetic and low-grade female figures, in vulgar positions, (metal) plastered on the truck windows of would-be men.

  24. Ms Lively made it into my list because it was a beautiful dress and she has both the legs and the youth to carry it off.

However, there were other ladies there who wore short dresses, Gisele Bundchen in particular, and I thought they were inappropriate for the occasion. The glamorous occasion and the surroundings did call for a full length gown I quite agree. Diane Kruger looked sensational in her white gown which covered up her totally.

Neither stuffy or old James, heaven forbid ;)

Fun talking fashion with you, have a lovely day :)

  25. Yep, you and My-Reason-For-Living-In-France are the two perfect men in this world.

Lucky me -- I have him and I can "borrow" you. I assume Elaine has given all of us permission to borrow her bijou, virtually of course.

    Ton amie pour toujours,
