This past Saturday my favorite nephew got married to the most delightful young woman. They made a lovely couple. They were both athletes in college. He played baseball and she was a swimmer. The wedding took place in a beautiful Catholic church in a quaint college town. However what I'm gonna remember best is what these two photos show.
Gabe's Mom dressed him in the cord blazer. When he came out to the car he had added the scarf and shades. Come on now for a seven year old that's styling!
The other is of the men's room at the reception . These heads went all around the room. There is only one shot, because after the flash went off I realized the stall was occupied. I quietly got the hell out of there. Good times.

  1. That young man bears watching. He'll be a heartbreaker some day.

Our best wishes to the happy couple.

  2. Love both photographs - the first because he looks such a cool little chap and the second because I could not stop laughing at your comment about 'getting the hell out of there' when you realised that the other cubicle was occupied! Oh and the animal heads are pretty stunning too!

  5. I'm thinking that kid has a future in fashion! I know just what you mean about the inconvenient flash...I try to alway keep mine turned off. Everything I read says natural light makes for better pictures and it's true. Strange place for mounted trophy's! Then again, Brits have a thing about what is appropriate to hang in the downstairs loo...

  6. James, fashion in the blood, in the genes? It has happened you know and it appears we're seeing it again here.

  7. What a great kit the boy put together.
I'd be afraid one of those things would fall on my head!
    Great post as always.

  8. Thank you all for the comments about Gabe. He is such a joy. I'm still waiting for the police to come with questions about a camera in a public restroom. I'l plead ignorance.

  9. Stylin' for sure!

I'm afraid I can't share the enthusiasm over having dead animal heads in the restroom...but to each their own! :)

  13. Bonjour James,
Gabe looks so handsome and stylish, the lollipop adds just the right touch. As for the men's room, don't worry I don't think the photo police will be coming anytime soon. I was snapping a picture of a storefront here in Paris the other day and the manager came out and told me to get lost! I guess it must have been the mortified look on my face because as I started to slink away he ran after me and said he was sorry, and a few photos would be fine! How's that for French politeness?
    Good week to you!

  15. Okay, men's rooms are really different. I realize this. But seriously, doesn't it seem like someone is watching you??? I would think some would seriously have some performance anxiety going on.

  16. Gabe is quite the dapper young man - love the scarf and shades! Too funny about the photo session in the men's room!

  17. James you are very funny. I would have been mortified about that bathroom shot, too! Your little nephew seems to be taking after his uncle. Handsome and traditionally stylish. Very nice!
    Have a good day,
    XO

  18. It's me again. Okay, I was confused. Gabe is your grandson, not your nephew. Either way, he's a cutie!

  20. I have to say, I adore taxidermy. I love it myself. In our dining room, on an old beat up demi-lune table that was my hubby's great grandmother's we have our bar set up. Vintage highball glasses and various cocktail shakers, the old school water spritzer that they used in old three stooges to spray one another, with the wire mesh. We actually use ours with scotch. Various cut glass decanters filled with scoth and sherry etc. And, pride of place, sits 'Hereford' my taxidermied pheasant. He has seen better days. He was a Christmas present form hubby's a few years back found unloved in the back of an old antique shop on Charles on the Hill in Boston, he knew his wife would be happy when she opned that gife and he was right. There is so much dignity and mood in taxidermy. I defy anyone to go into a large room in a manor house in the countryside of england or france and think they look undignified all lined up. I always laugh at modern people when they take offense or our 'upset' by taxidermy. Yet, I am sure they think little when they scarf down that burger considering what the cow went through to get into your Big mac. With taxidermy, the animal most likely died with dignity. He went down as a knight of yore, with the hunt ending in his partner being just a bit wiser than he, so hats off to him, the kill was natural and part of the cycle of living. To keep his head upon your wall is a show of respect and dignity to our primal beginnings. I would rather a hundred such heads than a room full of particle board Ikea or cheap plastic lashed together in China.
Oh, and your grandson is quite dashing. Most likely a chip of the ole' block I suppose.

  21. Oh James, I can't get over how adorable your grandsons are, I see this little man has inherited his grandfather's dashing style!
Hope you are having a wonderful week!

  23. A sweet sunny hello to you James. Found your blog on Lily Lemontree - sweet little grandson! No grandchildren here yet, and none on the horizon I'm afraid! Take care.

  24. I too love taxidermy, one of my favourite jobs was to paint "Shields" on the wall around a room to look like rusted old shields with antique copper and gold work on them and then the heads were hung on them in the room. They looks fabulous and then I painted "ribbons" next to each head stating the hunter, the year of the kill and what the animal was. It really looked great and made me a fan of taxidermy forever.

So James, did you hear anyone throughout the evening talking about the "lunatic who was taking pictures in the loo"? And if so did you act shocked and disgusted? lol

  25. Hello James, I enjoyed this post very much. I am a mom of 3 delightful boys and dream one day of being a grandma to many! We are enjoying the delightful weather up North in our old farmhouse and I hope you are having nice weather too. I enjoy your smart well written posts tremendously, it is much appreciated.

  26. Hi James
Just popping over from Rita's blog. How cute Gabe is... and how great he has a sense of fashion identity at his age. Had to laugh about the flash.... some poor occupant probably already felt threatened with those heads looking down on him... Julie

  27. Oh snap! That is a great outfit with those accessories! But I have to say that is a funny story that someone was in the stall when you snapped that photo!

  28. Aloha James,
As always you never disappoint, looks like fun had by all:)
    Thanks for the smile,

  29. You know you are a TRUE BLOGGER when you find yourself going for your camera (phone or otherwise) more than you ever did, just so you can capture things like you did in that restroom. Oh to know what that poor fellow thought when he saw that flash go off... then again, maybe we don't want to know... You were wise to bolt! :)
