Scunnered

To be honest I had heard of Flashman, but never read any of the novels. After it was mentioned on Admiral Cod, I decided to look into it. I may start reading the series, or maybe not.I was looking into it when I came across this article here. . Interesting to see how many things that are happening in our country are also occurring in Great Britain. I also came away with a new word to describe how I feel at times: scunnered. I even like the sound of it. After this weekend I feel very scunnered. The terrible tragedy followed by the media reporting pure speculation about motive, injuries, even recovery just minutes after the shooting. I had to turn it off, what a way to report one of this country's saddest days. It's to be expected I suppose .I wonder if Sir Sean is ever scunnered?

Oh yeah, one more thing. It's Auburn War Eagles, not Tigers( I lived outside of Opelika, I know) Beat the Ducks.

  1. James! Glad to see you're back. I've missed your sweet comments.

The media coverage is disgraceful. But when isn't it, regardless of topic?

And Mr. Connery in a kilt? Oh my! He's made me swoon since I was 15.

  2. Scunnered is a brilliant Scottish word, Sean is most likely scunnered 5 days out of 7, it's a national past time for Scots,

  3. I think 'scunnered' is the ideal word for the mood of this country today. I've heard my husband use that word from time to time & have just shrugged my shoulders wondering what he meant?

I'm a huge fan of you James but in this case I must say it's Oregon Ducks all the way! Quack!

  4. Dear James,
I was so sad to hear of the recent events in your country.....what an awful tradgedy and such a terrible waste of lives.
Regarding Sir Sean....I'm sure that he is scunnered at least once a day. He might have played James Bond but he is human after all !!!!
I love to watch sport but, alas, I haven't a clue about the Eagles and Ducks so may the best team win.I shall remain impartial. XXXX

  5. S H&H: He has the same effect on me!

Tabitha: Probably has something to do with kilts and cold winds.

DT: Quack back at ya. Enjoy the game, I hope you don't end up scunnered.

  7. I love how the Scottish language always has just the right word.

I havn't seen much of the coverage - but then not being in the US keeps us out of the politics of most events.

Glad to see you back...if under unfortunate circumstances.

  8. It's a good and appropriate word. Many thanks for the reminder. You say war eagles, she says Tigers. Go Ducks

  9. Scunnered. I like it, will use it, and sadly feel it daily. I agree James, the (print/digital) media more and more, as seen of recent makes me want ill with overall disgust; at home we call it the death and violence report. I prefer my CDs and records more and more, to even the radio. I refuse to watch television (no one in our house does), we use it as a monitor for films only. Thank you for the post.

  12. Scunnered is a fantastic word! I like it almost as much as I like poppycock, so that's a lot :-)

  13. Have just Googled to find that ducks and tigers playing together is not some sort of animal phenomenon in the US but rather a colledge game.... I hope...

My hubby is transfixed to TV at the moment at ungodly hours watching the games up to the Super-dooperbowl.

  14. I've got to admit, he looks pretty damn good in that kilt! Not too many men can pull that look off :-)

  15. I love this line from the article: "Damn history. Let's pretend it didn't happen because we don't like the look of it."

Scunnered sounds like a good word to me.

  17. I absolutely LOVE finding new words and scunnered sounds like a keeper to me.
Sean Connery takes my breath away. He could wear a lime green leisure suit and I would still swoon over him.
