I'm so proud

Gabe comes in today, big grin on his face, and announces " Look Grandad I'm dressed like you!" Both my boys wear khakis as much as jeans, collared shirts and nice shoes. Ethan has a pair of Bass beef rolls . When I pick up Gabe from school and I see the 7 and 8 year olds with mohawks and mullets , Harley shirts and sweat pants.....I mean it just looks like nobody cares. And thats the point, the way to show what you are is how you dress. No one else can respect you if you don't respect yourself. Its not a snob thing, its a caring thing , and how these guys perceive themselves . I'm proud my daughters put the time and effort in showing they do.

  1. To hear that from your grandson, you have every right to be proud. With an eight year old I know what you mean, I just thank god my son has to wear a uniform to school.

  2. What a great post! You must be a proud grandfather!

This is our first time in public schools, and I have a difficult time with both of my daughters. In California, they are embarrassed that they don't fit in. Unfortunately, fitting in seems to range from disregard for one's appearance to inappropriate and vulgar.

I think that my girls are going back to private school.

  3. Absolutely edible little boy! Tell me your daughters' secret - my son is smart as paint for school but would roll about in nylon football strips 24/7 if I let him...

  4. Dear E
At this point they are only 7 and 18 months so it may be a different story when they get to big to tackle.

  5. You are fascinating. Blog on. Gabe is too sweet for words. Let's hope you and your daughter can keep him on sartorial message for the duration.

(I didn't even know people said "I'm done." How delightful of you to give me more to complain about. There you go, just ended a sentence in a preposition.
