I just read another blogger talking about manners today. He was posting a list of things to do today such as opening doors and being a polite driver. The thing that struck a nerve with me was eating with your hat on. First of all you should have removed your hat when you entered the building. I supposed fast food joints are a given, but a fairly nice place still has most men eating wearing their hats! Well ok ball caps. As my grandfather would have said" Your head cold boy?"
Well the point is its all JFK's fault. No not his politics, his refusal to wear a hat. I know that is a bit simplistic, but its this time period that so many things changed. The causal dress down life style in business and school is a major factor in the old"what's wrong with America today". No respect, no manners and sadly not a clue as to why this is wrong! The photo is my grand father Reno Ferguson and yes a hat and tie while fishing.
Dear Sir,
ReplyDeleteHow much I agree with you, I cannot say for I would go off on a rampage 2 miles long. Though I am a decade or two behind you, I too feel that I have been born at the wrong time--even the wrong century. The lack of gratitude, the rotten attitudes, the POOR customer service, and the sloppy dress is abhorrent. Mind you, I am not the princess of the ball, BUT, I realize that our society has fallen miserably in manners and the like, and I wish that we could change it back.
Gramma owned a store, and we were taught customer service. You greeted everyone and thanked them as well. There are times where I don’t receive so much as a “kiss my pa-too-tee” when I check out at a store. No “Hello”, no “Thank you”, no “Good-by”--chaps my hide.
My grampa, on the other side, always wore his hat. We didn’t mess with it, either. AND, he took it off when he went inside. Hubby and I stopped at a vintage store last evening and saw some of these hats. Every time I see them, it makes me think of Grampa and better times.
Thank you for writing your non-PC thoughts. I solute them!
P.S. I popped over from the 50sgal site.
